Sophia is a HAES-aligned dietitian specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. Sophia graduated with a BA from SUNY Geneseo and earned her Masters in Public Health in Nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She brings over 5 years of experience working with all presentations of disordered eating on inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient levels of care. Currently Sophia works exclusively with adults and adolescents struggling with disordered eating in an outpatient capacity at The Emily Program.
I am Sarah McCarty and have been with The Emily Program for 3.5 years. I am the Clinical Manager of our adult inpatient/residential facility and a therapist by background. Prior to my time at The Emily Program, I graduated with a degree in social work from Appalachian State University and received my LCSW. My background includes intensive-in home family services and working with youth transitioning into adulthood.
One of my favorite things about the work I do is partnering with a multidisciplinary team to support patients in getting back to or building their lives beyond treatment. It is truly incredible to see patient's progress on the higher levels of care. Body image distress is something that impacts many of the patients in the population we work with. I have lead a body acceptance therapy group for multiple years on different levels of care and it is a topic I am passionate about. I hope to bring perspectives to this topic that are useful for other professionals in the treatment of eating disorders.
