Eating Disorder Treatment with Medications Across the Lifespan

CE Hours 1

About this live event

Available treatment options for those with eating disorders has a foundation in psychotherapy, nutrition rehabilitation, and in many cases medication interventions. Medication strategies are limited in terms of medicines with FDA approval. A review of the approved medications for the treatment of eating disorders will be presented. In addition, the presenters will emphasize how the holistic assessment of an individual that identifies co-occurring mental health and physical health will likely lead to medication considerations for those conditions that may assist with overall recovery of the individual. A review of the relative strength of evidence for commonly used medications for those with eating disorders will also distinguish short term vs longer term goals. The presenters aim to help familiarize clinicians with common medication approaches utilized in the treatment of those with eating disorders, as well as how to integrate medication approaches into the psychotherapy and nutritional rehabilitation aspects of care. The course is designed for an audience of clinicians who are not prescribers yet will likely be valuable for those who are prescribers as well.
