Individuals with a diagnosis of Binge Eating Disorder (BED) have a higher prevalence and are a greater risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The conventional treatment of T2DM usually involves avoidance or reduction in certain foods and other eating pattern changes that can create difficulty in BED treatment areas such as reducing binge episodes and legalizing/neutralizing foods. - Apply an understanding of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) etiology and treatment as it relates to recovery efforts from Binge Eating Disorder (BED).
- Recognize the psychological concerns and impacts of T2DM diagnosis and recommended treatment on patients with BED.
- Formulate BED treatment plan that takes into account the need to address T2DM recommendations while minimizing psychological distress.
- Develop a nutrition care plan that is T2DM-informed while still guiding the person back to a balanced eating pattern and healthy relationship with food.
